Our Pre-K program is based on school readiness. It is designed to teach children skills that will help with a smooth transition to kindergarten. We utilize Teaching Strategies "Creative Curriculum for Preschool" which includes the following areas of development and learning: Social-Emotional, Physical, Language, Cognitive, Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and the Arts. We pay special attention to the child's approach to learning emphasized in the NC Foundations Guide. This includes children's problem solving skills, processing and applying experiences, information-seeking and eagerness, persistence, attentiveness, imagination and creativity. Children learn how to respect others, share information, listen, express their feeling appropriately and follow school rules. We encourage self help skills throughout the day, and children are assigned weekly jobs such as attendance assistant, calendar helper, line leader etc., which helps them build self-esteem and self-confidence.
We believe that children learn through play. Here at Immaculata they are given opportunities to choose activities, participate in large and small groups and have time for one on one with a teacher. We are very fortunate to be able to participate in several weekly programs offered through the school. Those opportunities include School Assembly, Library/story telling, Music/movement, Spanish, Physical Education and other special events.
We believe that a child's environment should be inviting, interesting and make them feel comfortable. We follow a daily schedule that allows children to know what to expect. During free play, children are allowed to choose centers and activities. Center choices encourage social skills, language and communication skills, fine and gross motor development.
