Immaculata Catholic School

Hola!  Welcome to the exciting world of Espanol.  Spanish is offered from PreK through eighth grades.  The lower grades have one contact per week while the Middle school enjoys 3-4 contacts per week.

The Middle School program combines oral as well as written exercises. The textbook, McGraw-Hill's Saludos, is used mainly as a resource; the thrust of this language program is based on the instructor's experience.

The objectives for this program are the following: to appreciate the diverse culture of the Spanish speaking world; to better acquaint oneself with the geography of Spanish speaking countries; to learn the rudiments of Spanish grammar; to express thoughts and carry on simple conversations in the target language; and to have a basic cache of survival Spanish statements such as, "Where is the bathroom?"

Researching a Spanish speaking country along with its cuisine is a popular project among the students.  Other projects have been doing a Latin dance for assembly as a class and researching current famous Hispanic people.

This year with the placement of a Smartboard in the classroom, many more opportunities for our students have become possible. Now we are able to go on virtual tours of these countries. In studying sports we were able to witness a jai alai match after learning all about this fast paced game from the Basque region of Spain.
