Immaculata Catholic School

Elementary art students have been learning many differnt art terms and artists.  Not to mention creating wonderful pieces of art to go with each lesson.  So far we have learned many differnt skills such as cutting, glueing, tearing,  printing, painting, folding, curling, and much, much more.  Some of the artists that we have studied have included Vincent van Gogh, Georigia O'Keeffe, Jacob Lawrence, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, and Rembrandt van Rijn.  We have also worked very hard learning different terms that are very important to art.  Do you know what asymmetrical balance is?  How about bird's-eye view?  Using litature and famous artists styles we have been creating some very unique pieces of artwork.  Keep your eye out in the weather art section of the Times-News for more pieces from Immaculata Students. :)

Middle school students have been working on understanding and using the Principles and the Elements of art.  The Priciples of art are Balance, Variety, Harmony, Emphasis, Proportion, Movement, Rhythm, and Unity.  The Elements include Color, Line, Shape and Form, Space, and Texture.  Learning the concepts and understanding how to use them helps us create interesting pieces of art.  Seventh grade is currently working on a mixed media project that will test their understanding of how to combine diffent elements to make a unique piece of artwork.  Another asspect of art  that we have been working on is art awareness:  history, artists, styles, and careers.
