  • Wednesday, March 17th .... Wearing of the Green

ICS Student Council is sponsoring an Out of Uniform Day .... BRING $1 to donate to Brother Michael to give to the charity of his choice and you can come dressed in GREEN .... be sure to check out the handbook rules for out of uniform days!

 

  • Thursday, March 18th .... MIDDLE SCHOOL St. Patrick's Day Themed DANCE  6:30 - 9:30 in the gym

Please bring your $3 admittence before the dance - Treasurer Compton will have officers collecting the $ in the foyer before school.  We will have PIZZA, drinks, and snacks.  BRING AN ITEM FOR THE INTERFAITH ASSISTANCE MINISTRIES FOOD DRIVE when you come to the dance!

Grade 6 – NC State Science Standards
 
 
Goal #1 & 2 Science Process Skills 
Including Science Expo Project & USA Today, Focus On Scientist
& Inventors
          This is an ongoing topic including our use of computer systems
 
Goal #3 Geological Cycles – Lithosphere
          This will include a study of earthquakes and volcanoes.
 
Goal #4– Matter
          This will include a study of our forests, cycles, and roles.
 
Goal #5 Solar System
          Students will “blast off” with a study of NASA’s explorations,
          Mars, and aliens!
 
Goal #6 Energy Transfer/Transformation
          Through use of music and photography, students will study sound
          & light as well as explore alternative energy sources including
          solar cooking!
 
Goal #7 – Population Dynamics
          Time for “Techno Zoo”, bears, and humans as we explore
          adaptations, overpopulation and risks for extinction.
 
 

Grade 7 – NC State Science Standards
 
 
Goal #1 & 2 Science Process Skills
Including Science Expo Project, USA Today Visions of Excellence, Focus On Scientists & Inventors
This is an ongoing topic including our use of computer technology, laboratory skills, nature observations and digital photography.
 
 Goal #3 Atmosphere
This topic will include layers of the atmosphere, NC specific point and non-point source air quality issues, satellite images and wild weather!
 
Goal #4 & 5  Human Body Systems, Genetics & Heredity
          This is a major unit that will include nutrition, bones, organ systems, DNA &
          more. We will explore owl pellets, Reebops, extract DNA from a banana and
          research genetic diseases, drugs and alcohol.
 
Goal #6  Motion and Force
          Time to “blast off” as we explore force and motion using bridge building,
          water rockets, catapults, fire kites & Raven aircraft! This unit is enhanced
          by our ongoing association with the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Air Force
          Association and their generous support!

This is an ongoing topic including our use of computer technology, laboratory skills, nature observations and digital photography.
 
Goal #3   Hydrosphere
            Water, water and more water ….. We will explore our local water sources,
            watersheds, NC specific water quality issues & participate in the Henderson Soil
            & Water  Conservation District’s speech topic.
           
 
Goal #4 Chemistry
            This unit will make the periodic table come alive as you adopt an element,
            we’ll explore human impact on the environment, oil spills, secret recipes and
            more! Lots of time to put those Pre- Algebra and Algebra skills to use as
            we manipulate formulas and balance equations.
 
Goal #5  Evolution
Our concentration will be on the study of non-human organisms and landforms as we explore the changes through fossil records using the Field Museum of Natural History – (Chicago, IL) interactive website, Our Evolving Planet. Wolves, forests, volcanoes & soil will be our basis to discover the changes that have formed our current Earth and more
importantly – our very own Blue Ridge Mountains! 
 
Goal #6  Cell Theory
Activities will include making animal and plant “cells” to determine the structure, function and processes.
 
Goal #7 – Microbiology
            Viruses, bacteria, allergies – all those invisible things that impact our
            everyday lives.
