4th Grade Rocks!

Treasures is our reading series. Graphic organizers are now easier with our new Smartboards. As students sort, categorize and label, they are able to get out of their seats and move to learn. They have been creating games to learn new vocabulary. We record our words in a personalized mini vocabulary books. We have read many different types of genre. The students’ favorite genre has been biographies. They particularly enjoyed reading about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. when he was a child.

Writing:
We have been working on many writing projects to prepare ourselves for our writing assessment. Lessons have been broken down into steps that students can remember. We examine the prompt, narrow our topic, and organize our thoughts. Our stories have been amazing. The students’ favorite has been writing a story about receiving a penguin for a pet. Our next writing project will be on St. Patrick’s Day and having to kiss the Blarney Stone.
Science:
4th Grade: Is studying magnets and electricity. We discovered that magnets are great at detecting iron in metal objects.
3rd Grade: We just finished a study on planets. Next, we will be learning about our bodies. We will cut our body shape out of paper. As we learn about the different organ parts, we will paste them on the paper body.
5th Grade: We have just finished up our study on ecosystems and biomes. Because of current events of earthquakes, many students have questions about what was underneath the land. To start our next course of study, we will be learning more about planet Earth and what is inside. Then, we will study landforms.
Ask your child about their Science Notebook. Your child collects information about what they are learning. There are worksheets, experiments, vocabulary words and notes in the notebook.
